‘Interview With Vampire’ Showrunner Rolin Jones Re-Ups Overall Deal With AMC Studios As Series Awaits Season 3 Renewal

EXCLUSIVE: Rolin Jones, developer, executive producer and showrunner of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, has signed a new multi-year overall with AMC Studios, which is behind the gothic horror drama. This is an encouraging sign for the future of the series, which is currently airing its second season on AMC and AMC+.

As the anchor of AMC’s Anne Rice Immortal Universe with 98% Rotten Tomatoes rating for each of its two seasons to date and the biggest non-Walking Dead universe series in viewership and acquisition on AMC+ in the last year, Interview with the Vampire probably doesn’t need to worry too much about a Season 3 renewal.

Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment and AMC Studios, AMC Networks; and Ben Davis, EVP of scripted programming, AMC Networks and AMC Studios, gave Season 2 high marks in confirming Jones’ new pact.

“We’re thrilled to extend our exclusive multi-year overall deal with Rolin Jones, who is one of the most talented writers and showrunners working anywhere in scripted entertainment. He has been instrumental in the creation and ongoing development of our Anne Rice Immortal Universe, and the current second season of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire is one of the greatest seasons of television that has ever appeared on AMC or any network or streaming service,” they said. “We couldn’t be more excited about all that is to come through this extended AMC Studios partnership with this extraordinary creative talent.”

AMC’s Anne Rice Immortal Universe launched in 2022 with Jones’ Interview With A Vampire, which has been followed by Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches in 2023 and the recently greenlighted Anne Rice’s The Talamasca.

“The brilliance of our show Interview with the Vampire, and it truly is brilliance, comes directly from the mind and the pen of Rolin Jones,” said producer Mark Johnson who overseeing the Anne Rice Immortal Universe. “From the very first draft of the first episode, it was clear to everyone involved that we were in the hands of a master storyteller. He surprises, he entertains, and he doesn’t compromise. Working with Rolin is without a doubt one of the highlights of my career.”

Jones returned to the AMC fold with an overall deal in 2020 for his Dwight Street Book Club with producing partner Adam O’Byrne who is a producer on Interview With A Vampire. Jones previously had been under a deal at the studio and created the pilot Knifeman before moving to 20th Century Fox TV and Fox 21.

He and O’Byrne have a number of projects in development at AMC Studios with completed scripts, the duo revealed while joking about working with prolific producer Johnson whose company was also behind AMC’s award-winning Breaking Bad franchise and cult favorite Halt And Catch Fire.

“We here at Dwight Street Book Club (Rolin Jones and Adam O’Byrne) are grateful to Dan and Ben for the accidental extension of our deal, excited to continue working on the fourth best show Mark Johnson has produced for AMC, and eager to unleash our development slate (Callaghan, Moscovitch, Bellson, Stein/Prosty, Feldman/Sweeney, Hewlett/Musselman, Moshe — actual finished scripts y’all!) when the historic and transcendent staring game our beloved business finds itself in, ends in a mutually satisfying blink,” they said.

Jones also was the co-creator/showrunner of HBO’s Perry Mason and the Season 1 executive producer/showrunner of The Exorcist for Fox. He has written and produced for Friday Night Lights, Weeds and Boardwalk Empire. He is repped by UTA, Larry Shuman of the Shuman Company and Tara Kole at JSSK.
