'Intimate' Birmingham spot named among the best vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Britain

A Birmingham restaurant has been named among the best in Britain for vegan and vegetarian food by the Michelin Guide. The esteemed guide, which gives ratings and stars to the best dining spots around the world, highlighted Land in Great Western Arcade among the very best in a recent ranking.

Land, which we called 'the best value fine dining restaurant in Birmingham' when we reviewed it here, has two AA Rosettes and is listed in both the Michelin Guide and the Good Food Guide. The modern, casual dining restaurant, operated by co-owners and head chefs Adrian Luck and Tony Cridland, offers a full six-course tasting menu of plant-based food for £60.

The latest menu, which changed regularly to include fresh, seasonal ingredients, features potato with wild garlic, onion and shimeji, tapioca with oyster mushroom and nasturtium and carrot with Thai curry and basil. The Michelin Guide says that the chefs 'help those natural ingredients to shine' when championing the restaurant.

The guide states: "Turnip is paired with kimchi, and onion with dashi, at this modern vegetarian restaurant with a discernible Asian influence. As you can guess from the name, the produce of the land is at the heart of the menu, with a highly seasonal approach taken to ensure its quality.

"Grab a seat at the raised rear table to see Head Chefs Adrian and Tony at work, helping those natural ingredients to shine using influences from across the globe. An intimate spot with sleek modern design, Land is nestled within the grand, Victorian-era Great Western Arcade in the heart of Birmingham."

The Michelin Guide list of best places for vegetarian and vegan food features four London restaurants along with businesses in Edinburgh, Bath, Cambridge and Drighlington in West Yorkshire. Land is the only Midlands restaurant to feature and the full list can be found below.

As well as being included in Michelin's Best Restaurants in Birmingham list for 2024, Land was also high up on our list of restaurant recommendations for 2024, noted as being 'one of the city centre's most exciting restaurants'.
