Hot take: the Nottingham Pot Noodle machine (PA)

In the world of cereal cafés and crisp butty shops, the Pot Noodle vending machine was only ever a matter of time away.

Thought to be a UK first, the above machine has just appeared Nottingham – bearing the sign ‘I shall be up and working next week’.

Fans of the food will be able to enjoy spicy curry, beef, tomato, and chicken and mushroom delights 24 hours a day from then.

While commonplace in Japan, the vending machine – on the city’s Mansfield Road – is certainly a novelty here, and is causing something of a stir.

The food, which comes in 11 flavours and is ready in four minutes once boiling water is added, has something of a cult status.

Student Richard Harris, 22, said: “I can’t say I’ve ever really craved a Pot Noodle at four in the morning, but I imagine the queues will be pretty big because it’s so quirky especially among students.”

Mother-of-two Natalie Barnes, 31, said: “It’s brilliant – I might get one when I’m waiting for the bus or something. They’ve got machines like this all over Japan, so why not here?”
