Investigation launched after suspected arson attack in West Cornwall

Investigations are ongoing following a fire in West Cornwall was referred to police after fire services suspected arson might have been the cause

Police were called to the building on fire at Boat Cove Lane, Perranuthnoe just before 5.30pm on Thursday (June 27).

Pictures sent to the Packet by Caleb Giddens show the building completely burnt down to the ground, with only a chimney breast remaining.

Officers were called to the scene by the fire service just before 5:30pm, and while the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, police have confirmed they are treating the incident as arson.

They are now appealing for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity around the building at the time of the fire to come forward.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating a suspicious fire at a property in Perranuthnoe.

“Officers were called by the fire service just before 5.30pm on Thursday 27 June following the fire within a chalet in Boat Cove Lane.

“The building was destroyed by fire.

“Police are treating the incident as arson and appealing for anyone who saw suspicious activity around the building at the time of the incident to contact them.
