iPhone 6s Plus beats best camera on DxOMark in photo and video tests

Recently crowned as the top camera on DxOMark, Sony’s Xperia Z5 smartphone had appeared to be the current gold standard for smartphone cameras. But a recent comparison between the iPhone 6s Plus and the Xperia Z5 seems to indicate that Apple’s new phone might be even better than Sony’s best smartphone camera for a number of reasons.

A new comparison video, posted on YouTube channel SuperSaf TV, shows the two flagship smartphones in various side-by-side tests for taking still pictures and recording videos.

The iPhone 6s Plus features a 12-megapixel camera while the Xperia Z5 packs a 23-megapixel main shooter. But the megapixel count isn’t everything, and the iPhone 6s can beat the Xperia Z5 in several tests.

The iPhone 6s Plus is better at 4K video recording, low-resolution selfies (especially with flash), and at taking pictures with the rear camera (especially apparent in low-light environments).

The Xperia Z5 did outperform the iPhone 6s Plus when it comes to audio quality, autofocus speed and selfies in optimum light. The Sony smartphone also has a wide-angle lens that works in its favor, as it lets the shooter capture more things in a photo.
