Iraqi Forces Prepare to Attack Islamic State in Tal Afar

Iraqi tanks and troops moved towards Tal Afar, Iraq, on August 16 to participate in a major offensive against the Islamic State’s last haven in Nineveh province, according to a local fighting group.

The assault on Tal Afar has not yet begun, as Iraqi troops were still waiting for orders from the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi, Al Sumaria said, citing officials.

Civilians already started to flee the towns around Tal Afar city as heavy fighting was expected, Al Sumaria said, citing officials.
