Chase viewers were left seething after enduring what some dubbed the most underwhelming episode ever of the beloved ITV quiz show.

The team, consisting of Steve, Jacque, Hanna and Eddie, had collectively amassed a respectable £24,000 and with all four making it to the final chase, fans were braced for a thrilling climax.

Alas, excitement turned to dismay when the quartet managed to scrape together scarcely more than ten correct answers.

This woeful performance gave Anne Hegerty - AKA The Governess - an easy victory as she breezed through her set of questions, clinching the win with a whopping 53 seconds remaining. Consequently, much to the frustration of those watching at home, the team left empty-handed.

Social media was awash with commentary on the round's outcome, particularly pointing out Hanna's marked silence and lack of contribution in the final. Similarly, Jacque drew viewers' ire by her consistent "pass" responses.

Following the contestants' underperformance, The Governess stepped up, effortlessly securing a win and leaving the contestants with nothing but memories of their game show journey, reports the Mirror.

The Chase host Bradley Walsh informed the contestants: "No attempts to push back, none executed of course, caught with 53 seconds remaining."

Fans quickly took to social media to vent their frustration. One irate viewer commented: "Another facet of the many faceted Final Chase, it's bonkers that a full house with £24K in the bank can trip over themselves like that ... #TheChase."

Another added their thoughts: "When all 4 get into the final but they mess up....#TheChase.(sic)."

A third disgruntled fan remarked: "They all sucked. Another waste of an hour #TheChase."

While a fourth quipped: "Jacque the chief passer #TheChase."

The commentary didn't stop there, as another chimed in with: "Can someone check on Hanna, she appears to have frozen #TheChase."

Meanwhile, another said: "Sorry but they missed some easy ones there! *! #TheChase."

In related news, The Chase's very own Paul Sinha recently opened up about his "heaviest ever defeat" during a celebrity special of the show, which he confessed left him feeling "broken."

He reminisced about the 2016 episode where he was determined to outsmart comedian Rob Beckett.

In his memoir, One Sinha Lifetime: Comedy, disaster and one man's quest for happiness, he shared: "Sat in that seat, being mocked by the team, Bradley [Walsh], the audience and even the warm-up guy 'despondent' didn't cover it. I felt broken. Under the circumstances, I was pretty proud of what I said to Sir Geoff Hurst. 'I imagine this must be the greatest day of your life'. Afterwards, I really needed a drink and there was plenty on offer in the green room."

He continued: "As I offered insincere congratulations to the victors, I knocked back an imprudent quantity of beer and wine. Misjudging your pace matters less when you're happy. This was not the day to misjudge my pace."
