Shaun Wallace, also known as The Dark Destroyer on the popular ITV show The Chase, has spoken about his future on the programme while being a practising barrister. In an interview with New Zealand Woman's Weekly, he expressed his passion for both roles but acknowledged the potential sudden end to his lengthy television career, stating that he never takes it "for granted."

Shaun revealed: "I'm celebrating 40 years in the job this year and I have no plans to retire at 65. I love it. I love quizzing too, so I will be doing that for as long as I can."

The star was effusive about his role on The Chase, expressing his desire for it to continue indefinitely. He said: "I never take being on The Chase for granted. I know it could all end tomorrow, and I still pinch myself that we are celebrating our 15th anniversary this year."

He described his position on The Chase and its spin-off Beat the Chasers as "very competitive", but noted that answering questions in a studio is a "doddle" compared to facing the often "very stern" judges in the Court of Appeal.

Shaun also shared how The Chase has opened up other professional opportunities for him, including a gig as a quiz host on cruise ships. He has four sailings booked this year and recently completed one around the Mediterranean.

Despite his fame, Shaun Wallace's legal work remains unaffected as those in court are typically unfazed by his arrival in wig and gown, reports the Mirror.

He stated: "They're there for the case; they're not interested in Shaun Wallace the Chaser; they only care about Shaun Wallace the barrister. The fact I'm on TV isn't going to give me an advantage or affect the nature of the evidence. I just get on with it."

Marriage or children don't seem to be on the cards for The Chaser, who claims he's "married" to his career, although he did confess to being in a relationship. On the How To Be 60 podcast, hosted by Loose Women's Kaye Adams and Karen MacKenzie, Shaun revealed that his decision not to have children was a "conscious" one.

He suggested this was due to his early career as a "young struggling barrister", stating he "didn't think it would be right" to raise a child while "you're trying to climb to the top of that greasy pole". Despite this, Shaun has "never regretted that decision" and is godfather to 15 children, a role he seems to relish, claiming he's the "best godfather in the world".
