ITV Coronation Street viewers gobsmacked by newcomer's TV past as they rumble Stu Carpenter twist

Coronation Street viewers were gobsmacked as they recognised a newcomer in the latest episode.

Wednesday's episode continued to explore the mystery surrounding Lauren Bolton's disappearance. Roy Cropper has been charged with the character's murder and is currently serving time behind bars.

However, other characters in the show are working to prove Roy's innocence and aiming to find out what has really happened. On Wednesday, Roy was approached by newcomer Roscoe in jail.

Roy was initially fearful but Roscoe claimed they had a mutual friend in Stu Carpenter and was there to look out for him. Fans following the show on X were distracted during the scenes as they immediately recognised the actor, Warren Donnelly, from Shameless.

The TV star played Stan Waterman on the show as a user with the name Spartacus said: "Remember this guy was a cop in Shameless."

Marc added: "It’s Stan from Shameless" Leroy commented: "This a copper from Shameless?"

Luke posted: "OMG pc stan waterman from shameless has taken a turn for the worse ending up in prison" Fans are unsure whether Roscoe is truly Stu's friend as Mandy said: "Why didn’t Roscoe introduce himself as Stu’s old cell mate from the off, rather than all this faff? I smell a rat."
