ITV Emmerdale's Matty Barton star says there's 'worse to come' in brutal prison twist

Emmerdale star Ash Palmisciano, who portrays Matty Barton, has teased that his character is set for more turmoil. At the moment, Matty is locked up on remand, facing allegations of stabbing Samson Dingle and striving to keep his trans identity a secret from other prisoners.

Despite his family's efforts to get him out, Matty has been too scared to even shower or step out of his cell. But there's a twist in the tale as he gets a new cellmate named Les.

Ash spilled the beans about what's next for Matty during an appearance on ITV's This Morning. "Matty's cellmate confronts him and says, 'Look, I know something's up with you. The other guys here are questioning you, you're being too quiet, you're not quite right'. So he has to say... this guy wants to help him, and he has to say, 'Okay, this is who I am'," the Mirror quoted him as saying.

"He's got this cellmate who's kind of defended him. He's a bit of a rough diamond, he's a good guy who's ended up in there and he wants to look after Matty. He needs to know the truth. But once it's out there's other characters in there that aren't as understanding."

Adding to the intrigue, Ash said: "Matty's incredibly vulnerable, and let's face it, being inside and having an extra added target on your back is of course going to cause a threat. There's lots to come and as I said it's been so exciting to do," reports the Daily Star.

Ash has revealed a jaw-dropping twist in the tale involving Matty, telling reporters: "Amy reveals to Robbo, who is a very nasty transphobic horrible guy that Matty's trans. It's the worst possible thing that could have happened to Matty he just thought he was on the cusp of getting a hold of it and surviving and he was going to be all right and now he's been outed by his wife, which is unbelievable."

Ash went on to say: "Matty thinks at first there's absolutely no way that she would tell him on purpose so what has he done to her? So he's quite protective of her at first."

He also mentioned: "Also, when you're in a cell you have a lot of time in your head and the only thing you can do is think. I think he's going round and round and round about why this has happened and what's going to happen next."

In a disturbing turn of events, Robbo confronts Matty in his cell, leaving everyone on edge about what will happen to Matty next.
