ITV This Morning's Ben Shephard makes subtle dig at co-star as they issue apology

This Morning presenter Ben Shephard made a subtle dig at his co-host Cat Deeley on Monday morning's show. The remark from the TV host led Cat to apologise live on air.

The pair were back on the famous couch on Monday, May 13, discussing hairdresser appointments. They had been asking viewers to message in with their opinion on having 'silent' hair treatments and what it's like having a talkative hairdresser.

As they read out messages from fans, Cat noted: "I quite like a chat," as Ben replied: "Yes, I've realised that." Cat laughed nervously before saying "sorry". Ben swiped: "You can chat," with her responding: "I do, very much."

It's not the first time the new hosts have seemingly clashed on the programme, since stepping into the hot seats back in March earlier this year. OK! reports Ben branded Cat a 'control freak' during a heated debate on Wednesday's show last week.

They were joined on the couch by Camilla Tominey and Vanessa Feltz. The guests had been discussing a study which found women still do more housework than men, which left Ben trying to defend the male generation.

He was outnumbered as Cat, Vanessa and Camilla felt the study was accurate. As Cat discussed being organised at home, Ben branded her a "control freak". He said: "You're a control freak! Just let it happen!"

He then insisted she needs to "just relax" as everyone started speaking over one another. Vanessa reflected on a time she was working away from home and had left prepared meals for her family over feeling "guilty".

"I once went to Chicago to co-host the Jerry Springer Show and I had to make and label every single meal for my whole trip," she said. Ben then interrupted, asking: "Do you think anybody would have starved had you not made those labels?"

"I had to! I was made to feel so guilty," Vanessa hit back. Ben went on to defend himself, saying he is "so tidy" at home. He added: "Isn't it funny how we all cope when we don't get those post-its and we don't get those lists? Somehow we muddle through," as the debate continued.

Cat and Ben have been hosting This Morning since they made their on-screen debut back in March. They were finally announced as the permanent hosts for the show following Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield's departures.

Before this, ITV bosses had a string of various presenters filling in the gaps to the point viewers of the show joked it was a 'revolving door'. Alison Hammond, Dermot O'Leary, Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle were among those hosting the main show.
