ITV viewers were left shocked and amused on Thursday (March 7) when newsreader Nina Hossain accidentally swore live on air.

In a segment discussing Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, who had just revealed his Budget, Hossain referred to him as, "Mr C**t" before correcting herself and quickly moving on.

The slip-up was, of course, quickly noticed by viewers, who took to X/Twitter to share their amusement.

"If Nina Hossain hasn't just sealed the TV Moment Of The Year award at the next BAFTAs then I don't know why they bother having that category," wrote one viewer.

Another added: "Omg, no way did this just happen on the #itvnews it has made my day," while a third said: "Doesn’t miss a beat, powers right on. What a legend."

One viewer even declared: "Freudian slip of the year from Nina Hossain on the ITV lunchtime news."

At the end of the broadcast, Nina apologised for the slip, saying: "Just before I say goodbye, apologies for my slip of the tongue earlier when speaking to Harry Horton."

Nina isn't the first newsreader to make the slip-up with Hunt's name. BBC News 24's Carrie Gracie made the same mistake back in 2019, as did Victoria Derbyshire.

In 2017, when Hunt was Health Secretary, the blunder happened twice in one day on Sky News.

Actually, the blunder has occurred so many times that there's even a compilation video.

But that wasn't all that happened on the lunchtime news bulletin as, following Nina's slip, a live report was interrupted by a heckler who walked past and shouted: "‘F**k her in the p***y."

Lovely.
