The man with a voice known to millions of football fans, Clive Tyldesley have spoken of his 'upset and disappointment' after being told by ITV he'll be surplus to requirements after commentating one more match for them this weekend, despite there still being two weeks of Euro 2024 still to go.

Having been with ITV for close to three decades, Clive has overseen some massive games like crunch England matches in major tournaments, Champions League finals and FA Cup games and has been back in the box for the Euros with viewers hearing him regularly since the competition started in Germany earlier this month.

However, he won't be sticking around for much longer, as Clive has revealed that he'll be given his marching orders after commentating on the last 16 tie between Germany and Denmark on Saturday. While Clive was replaced as ITV' lead football commentator by Sam Matterface in 2022, the 69-year-old had no intention of retiring just yet, so the decision to axe him has come as a biter pill to swallow.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said "I've known for five to six weeks. The ITV football editor phoned me to tell me I would be going home after the last 16. I asked if there would be any other opportunities and he said that ITV would not be offering me another contract and so that will be it after 28 years. "

And although Clive said that ITV have 'been good for his career,' he then added: "It's a shame it's coming to an end but it's a matter of opinion and their opinion is that this is the right call. I don't know why they think that. I've never fully understood but I have to accept it. I still think my work is strong enough to resonate with old and young."

There has already been a big change of personnel in ITV's Euro 2024 line-up, with Danny Rohl making a sudden exit from his pundit's job last weekend to return to the UK for pre-season preparations with Sheffield Wednesday and Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou coming into replace him.
