J-Law's beaten-up face appears on new mother! poster
Paramount isn't holding back in its marketing campaign for mother!, and the latest poster has caused even more controversy.
The new US poster was published on Twitter by director Darren Aronofsky and it shows two halves of Jennifer Lawrence's face, one of which shows her beaten-up and bloodied.

And it has not gone down well with certain people who have taken issue with the striking image used.
"How about don't use the abused face of a woman to advertise your movie?," criticised one person, with another adding: "I'm all for embracing mother!'s divisiveness; I was more objecting to the poster's tawdry display of a young woman's bloody, bruised face."

using the depiction of an abused woman to market your movie is abhorrent @ParamountPics #everydaysexism #SVAWhttps://t.co/YFwg7gEnsS

I don’t care what you think of the movie, the fact that a woman gets beat up in it shouldn’t be the selling point.

However, there are others who think the poster has received an overreaction and that it sets out to do exactly what it's meant to.
"People fighting over this new mother! poster *about people fighting over mother!* is the most accurate piece of marketing for this movie yet," joked one person.

I'm liberal af but y'all are overreacting that new "mother!" poster. It just shows that the lead ends up going through hell.

Last week, Aronofsky revealed that he was totally expecting a negative reaction to his movie as they wanted to make a "punk movie and come at you", adding that the movie is a "total punch".
It's not the first time that a Jennifer Lawrence image on a poster has courted controversy after Fox apologised for an X-Men: Apocalypse poster that showed her character Mystique being strangled.
mother! is in cinemas now.
