A woman thought she was set for life when she won millions on a slot machine – but her only prize ended up being a steak dinner.

Katrina Bookman hit the jackpot in the Resorts World Casino in Queens, New York, scooping a life-changing $43 million (£35 million).

Or so she thought.

In fact, the unemployed mum-of-four’s win was declared void after the machine came up with an error message.

And despite taking a selfie at the moment she thought she had become a millionaire, Katrina was given no money at all.

Casino staff then pulled the machine to be fixed, leaving Katrina without a penny.

She told ABC News: “There was nothing wrong with it when I was playing the machine.

“How do we know when there’s a problem with it? Once I hit something, now you’re going to say it’s a problem. I totally don’t think that was fair.”

The casino offered Katrina a steak dinner to compensate – but she was understandably not satisfied.

She added: “You offer me a steak dinner? I feel like they did me real dirty.”

A Resorts World spokesperson apologised to Katrina, adding: “Upon being notified of the situation, casino personnel were able to determine that the figure displayed on the penny slot was the result of an obvious malfunction – a fact later confirmed by the New York State Gaming Commission.

“Machine malfunctions are rare, and we would like to extend our apologies to Ms Bookman for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

Katrina is now suing the casino over the incident.
