James Acaster has paid a visit to what he has called the 'best restaurant in Britain' as he returned to Newcastle for four sell out shows this week.

It was back in 2019 that James first singled out Chuchos for huge praise, talking about it on his hit podcast Off Menu as part of a Christmas special. Speaking to his co-host Ed Gamble and star guest Joe Lycett, James said: "That is the best thing, I've really enjoyed touring and finding places to eat. The best place to eat in the country at the minute I think is Newcastle, it's got so many amazing places.

"And Chucho's, in Newcastle, has the best tacos that I've had Britain. It's this family run place and they did a haggis taco and it's the best thing I've had on the whole tour, it was so good."

Chuchos, on Shields Road in Byker, was opened by Emma Wass and Jesus Tavizon Sosa after Jesus was left craving a taste of his homeland having moved to Tyneside. A photo of James making a return visit this week in the middle of his run of City Hall gigs, was posted on the Chucho's Facebook and fellow customers were quick to react, with one replying: "yeah it’s one of his faves! Talks about it all the time on Off Menu" and another writing: "ah aye he loves Chuchos. Obviously has good taste!"

Chuchos referenced James' love of their haggis taco in an Instagram post last month, with them writing: 'Today we wanted to give a shout out to the haggis taco and the man who put it on his dream menu James Acaster!" The mention came after James and Ed were talking about their dream menu with podcast guest Rylan Clark, with James adding an extra course just so he could mention Chuchos again.
