James Arthur Gets Signed BACK To Simon Cowell’s Label

James Arthur’s had quite the turnaround of fortunes, hasn’t he?

After getting dropped by Simon Cowell’s label Syco back in 2014, it seemed as though most people in the ‘industry’ had given up on him as he ended up going down a bit of a self-destructive path.

But fast-forward to 2016, and James has turned his life around with a number 1 album on the iTunes chart – and Simon Cowell? Well, he’s only gone ahead and signed him BACK to his label!

A spokesman for Syco said: “We can confirm that James Arthur is now once again signed to Syco Music in the UK. We are delighted to welcome him back into the Syco fold.”

According to those in the know at The Sun, it was the X Factor judge himself who pushed to sign James back to the label after his latest single did so well.

A music industry source told The Sun: “Over the last few years James has kept in touch with Simon. Simon has always thought James is a real talent but as soon as he heard the record he made up his mind to re-sign him.

“James has grown up a lot and realises he made mistakes in the past. Simon knows this. Syco will distribute James’s new album in the UK when it comes out later this year.”

Good news for everyone, eh?

James won the X Factor back in 2012, but despite initial success with his first single, it all seemed to unravel a bit as time went on – with a series of controversial Twitter spats and allegations of drug use in the press dogging the singer.

Simon said at the time: “I think James, unfortunately, has had so many issues with what he has done.

“Somebody should have told him to shut up and just put the records out.”

Speaking to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, the 28-year-old said: “I wasn’t prepared for it – it was a lot of pressure and judgment, but I wanted to make something of my life at the time,”

“I suffered from depression, I was very insecure and anxious even before the X Factor – and I was self-medicating,”

James says “he wasn’t prepared for the level of scrutiny” and reacted by rebelling against it.

After he was dropped, he took time out to sort himself out – later signing for Sony Germany and getting taken on by the James Grant management group – who will share responsibilities for James alongside Syco.

Congrats, fella!
