Speculation over who will direct James Bond 25 has been rife over the past few months –Christopher Nolan and Blade Runner 2049's Dennis Villeneuve have all fallen in and out of the running, but now it looks like those Danny Boyle rumours are here to stay.

Shortly after it was reported that the Oscar-winning director was the producers' top choice for Daniel Craig's final outing as Bond, it's now believed that another Trainspotting alum is on board.

(Perhaps it's only a matter of time until Ewan McGregor's tipped for 007, eh?)

Yes, according to Deadline, Boyle's vision for Bond is slowly taking shape, and now MGM has Danny's Trainspotting partner John Hodge writing a potential script for the upcoming film.

So, let's just say that it's probably not a bad idea to put a couple of quid on Danny Boyle jumping into James Bond 25's director's chair.

Of course, Boyle joining the Bond franchise does kind of make sense – after all, Boyle first aced his 007 audition more than five years ago.

As the mind behind the incredible Opening Ceremony for the London 2012 Olympics, Boyle joined forces with Daniel Craig and even Her Maj herself for a pretty amazing Bond skit.

Craig was confirmed to return for the sequel to Spectre back in August, after two years of toying with our hearts and refusing to commit to his future as the beloved British spy.

While details are a little thin on the ground, Craig did tease in his announcement that he "can't wait" to "go out on a high note".

We think Danny Boyle would certainly deliver that – and then some.
