James Cameron has revealed when, where, and why he cast Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic – and it seemingly all came down to Leo's sex appeal.

Cameron recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he was asked why DiCaprio got the role of Jack Dawson over Matthew McConaughey, who also auditioned for the role.

"Matthew read for the part and then we met Leo," Cameron explained. "Leo came in for an interview and I had this weird thing: I looked around the room and every woman in the building was in the meeting… the accountant was there, the female security guard, so I thought maybe I better cast this guy."

Yep, it all comes down to that (sex, sex, sex, sex, sex) in the end.

In December, McConaughey opened up about his Titanic rejection, admitting that he doesn't "know the real truth" about why he didn't land the role.

He said: "I heard that James Cameron told people I had the part but that I turned it down. I did read with Kate (Winslet) but I was never offered the part. If I was, I'd like to talk to my agent about it!"

Meanwhile, DiCaprio recently had to hand over his Academy Award statue – though, fortunately, not the one he won for The Revenant.

Leo is a collector of eclectic and historically celebrated items, so when Marlon Brando's Oscar – then owned by DiCaprio – was caught up in a fraud case in 2017, he contacted the Justice Department and gave it to authorities.
