Matt Tebbutt has been confirmed as the new regular host of Saturday Kitchen.

The 43-year-old celebrity chef, who also presents Food Unwrapped, will be replacing James Martin on the popular BBC series.

For weeks, he's been standing in on the show as producers launched a search to find the perfect candidate to take over the programme full-time.

Matt proved to be a bit of an unexpected hit with viewers – so much so that many backed a campaign calling on show bosses to give him a permanent contract.

Now, Saturday Kitchen's official Twitter account has revealed that the chef has been signed up... but he will only be hosting the show "every other week".

Matt's predecessor James announced he was leaving Saturday Kitchen last year, which was undoubtedly one of the most difficult decisions of his career.

But it's clear he made the right choice, as he's since spoken out to reveal he's "happier than ever" after quitting the series.

He told Woman magazine last month: "Before I quit Saturday Kitchen, I was working non-stop and my mates said, 'You look like trash, you've got to stop.'

"Between 2014 and 2015, I had 10 days off in two years. It was all work, work, work. On-screen, I looked like I'd been out getting drunk the night before but I was genuinely knackered!

"It made me think, 'I need to change my life.' Now I'm not working Saturday mornings I feel like I've got my life back. I can train the dogs, light the fire in the lounge and watch TV."

Saturday Kitchen is on BBC One, Saturdays at 10am.
