Steve Cooper has been given some Leicester City transfer advice by former Foxes striker Alan Smith.

Cooper is busy working on transfers after taking charge at the King Power Stadium last week. Speaking about his squad and new signings in an interview with the club, he said: “We’ve got a lot of talent, a lot of character, a lot of good attributes in the squad already.

“With the right additions that the club are working together in trying to bring in, we’ll give ourselves the best chance of reaching the objectives that we’ll set for next season.”

A new striker is likely to be high on Cooper’s wish list following the departure of Kelechi Iheanacho at the end of his contract this summer. He currently has Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka and Tom Cannon at his disposal in the striker department.

Smith also believes Cooper must look at the heart of his defence as they prepare for a return to the Premier League. “Leicester need to add a few players to the squad that are of Premier League quality,” he told Prime Casino.

“At the back, when you look at Vestergaard and Wout Faes, you don't see that as a double act that's going to be good enough in the Premier League.

“Up top, Jamie Vardy can’t go on forever. He could still do a job as a sub and impact substitute.

“Leicester must be really canny in the transfer market like they were a few years back – they’ll need to produce some rabbits out of a hat, like they did when they signed N’Golo Kante and Mahrez. Those players were superb in the Premier League and both of them came from nowhere really.

“It's not easy to do that, to find talent like that. Leicester need to strengthen, without question. I hope they can manage it.”
