Comedian Jason Manford was awarded the title of “Honorary Welshman” after enjoying a short stay on Anglesey earlier this week. After an earlier hiccup, he was applauded for using the Welsh name for his destination on his social media channels.

The TV presenter and stage star posted a selfie from “Silver Bay”, near Rhoscolyn, followed by a second from the same beach, this time calling it “Traeth Llydan”. Several people responded by thanking the Mancunian for using the “correct” name.

Jason was gushing in his praise for the location – but he did have one gripe. Visiting with his children, and staying at friends, he enjoyed a “beautiful Welsh evening” and called the area “cracking”. He followed this up with a Welsh flag emoji.

But he added: “Bloody cold in that water though.” For this he was taken to task by a fellow Northerner. “Stop being soft,” he said. “Thought you were like me, a hard Northerner?”

The comedian was particularly blown away by the beach at dusk. Returning there later, he posted a selfie, saying: “Another cracking Welsh sunset on Traeth Llydan.”

Many fans agreed. One called the horseshoe-shaped beach “the most wonderful place in the world”. Another added: “Looks stunning. Lovely to spend time with the children, making new memories.”

For his choice of language, and for promoting picturesque Ynys Môn, one fan said: “We are happy to have you in Wales , sir. Jason has six children – three daughters and a son with first wife Catherine and a daughter and son with current wife Lucy Dyke. During half term, he opened up about the struggles that every parent faces.

Posting to his Instagram account, Jason said: “Urgh, ever have one of those moments as a parent where you just get it wrong & overreact & then feel guilty about it for the rest of the night. Even tho the kid has moved on, had a laugh, gone to sleep fine & you’re just lying here awake thinking ‘could I have done that differently!’”

Also visiting Anglesey around the same time was Coronation Street star Alan Halsall, who plays who plays Tyrone Dobbs in the ITV soap. He’s a regular visitor to North Wales – over Easter he popped into the Crown Inn, Trelawnyd, Denbighshire, for a bite to eat with his family.
