Jay Slater friends say Tenerife police 'fobbing them off' amid 'kidnap' theory

Jay Slater's best friend has fumed Tenerife police are "fobbing me off". Lucy Law, who was the last person Jay, aged 19, spoke to before vanishing in Tenerife in the Canary Islands on Monday, has spoken out as the search for the missing Brit continues.

Jay's pal Lucy told the Mirror: "We need British police here. I just want to find my mate. He’s been missing three days. It’s not looking good now. We feel as though it’s down to us to find him and that we’re doing more than the police.

"The police here don’t speak English and don’t even have a translator after three days. I feel like they’re fobbing me off. They’re still asking me the same questions as when I first reported Jay missing.” She added: “The two boys that he was last with have left the country. They need to be questioned by British police.”

Lucy said: “A lady said she last saw Jay at 8am walking at pace. She said her brother owns the house.” Emergency crews, volunteers and the 19-year-old's family and friends have been focusing their efforts in the Rural de Teno Park area, close to the village of Masca - where Jay's phone was last tracked to before it ran out of battery.

Jay's disappearance was discussed on today's This Morning on ITV during the segment where the presenters talk about the news. Ben Shepherd revealed his son, who is the same age as Jay, is also currently travelling. Ben said: "I've got a son who's travelling at the moment who's 19, same age as Jay. We're constantly checking in 'make sure you stay with your phone, don't wander off, don't get lost'.

"It's the hope we'll get some good news. His mum Debbie is desperately worried." Discussing Jay's mum Debbie, Cat Deeley said: "Your heart just goes out to Debbie when you see how upset she is."
