Jay Slater mystery centred on remote Tenerife spot miles from anywhere where his phone last pinged

The search for missing teenager Jay Slater is reportedly focused on a remote spot around half a mile away from the Airbnb he stayed in the night before he disappeared. Jay's phone reportedly last pinged on Monday morning around half a mile further north from the property.

Jay, who travelled to Tenerife with a couple of mates for the NRG music festival, didn't make it back to their accommodation in Los Cristianos on Sunday night after he reportedly went off to an apartment with some new acquaintances.

Jay's last known contact was a panicked call to a friend where he said he was lost and his phone was about to lose charge. He allegedly said he planned to walk the 11 hour journey back to his accommodation.

Lucy Mae Law, a friend of his, last contacted Jay around 8 am on Monday when he phoned her mentioning his phone's battery was nearly out and that he was in desperate need of water, claiming to be walking in 'the middle of nowhere'. His phone signal was last detected in Rural de Teno Park, not far from the Masca village.

Search efforts on the island have been extensive, yet as the search entered its fourth night on Thursday, no progress was reported. On Friday, rescuers wearing hard hats and other mountain rescue equipment were seen searching the area as well as police helicopters overhead. Manchester Evening News reporter James Holt is in Tenerife as the search is ongoing and is sharing updates from the search, including footage of the remote location Jay's phone was last detected. He's said that the area being searched is mostly inaccessible other than one road and a few dirt paths.

As the search enters its fifth day, Jay's mother has shared her concerns that her son has been abducted. She said: "I'm all over the place and I'm trying to keep positive, has somebody taken him? Is he panicked and lost in the mountains? I just don't know, that's why if anyone has any information please just tell us.", reports the Mirror.

Amid the uncertainty, the idea that Jay has merely gotten lost seems increasingly unlikely to his mother,"But if he is lost then why hasn't anyone seen him? It's busy with hikers and holidaymakers up there so if he was lost then someone would have seen him, so that's why I think maybe he's been bundled off somewhere."

An image has surfaced of the Tenerife holiday home, Casa Abuela Tina, where Jay took his last photo before his disappearance. The property, which is attached to a bar and restaurant on the edge of the village of Masca, is advertised online as a holiday rental.

According to the Mirror, it's believed that two British men who were with Jay the night before he went missing had rented the property. They reportedly checked out yesterday before returning to Britain.
