Jay-Z finally opens up about Solange Knowles elevator fight

It has been more than three years since Jay-Z and Solange Knowles, Beyonce’s sister, were caught having a violent altercation in an elevator at the 2014 Met Gala, with the CCTV footage of the encounter sparking shockwaves across the celebrity world.

Now Jay-Z has opened up about the clash for the first time, insisting that he and Solange are as close as can be.

The rapper was speaking in an hour-long podcast interview with RapRadar when he opened up, and the star was keen to promote the “great” relationship that he has with his “sister”.

Speaking out, Jay explained: “We’ve always had a great relationship.

“I fought [with] my brothers and argued with my brothers my whole life. It just so happens, who we are, these things go into a different space, but it ain’t nothing.

“We’ve had one disagreement ever.

“Before and after, we’ve been cool. She’s like my sister. I will protect her. That’s my sister. Not my sister-in-law. My sister.”

Despite opening up for the first time, Jay refused to give any details on what sparked the disagreement, or why it became so physical.

Jay previously hinted at the fight in a track on his latest album, with the star seemingly apologising to Solange for how he treated her famous sister.

In ‘Kill Jay Z’, the father-of-three rapped: “You egged Solange on / Knowin’ all along, all you had to say you was wrong / You almost went Eric Benét / Let the baddest girl in the world get away.

“I don’t even know what else to say / N***a, never go full Eric Benét / I don’t even know what you woulda done / In the future, other n***as playin’ football with your son”.

The track is about Jay “killing off” his ego and sees the star take responsibility for the fight with Solange as he admits that he almost lost Beyonce due to his own bad behaviour.

Jay also opened up about his ongoing feud with fellow artist Kanye West in the podcast, confessing that he does have a “real, real problem” with his former friend.

Last November, Kanye hit the headlines when he went on a huge rant against Jay and Beyonce during his Saint Pablo world tour.

Kanye then cancelled the remainder of his tour and checked into hospital after suffering a “mental breakdown”, however, what the father-of-two said about his wife “hurt” Jay.

He explained: “You got hurt, because this guy was talking about you on a stage.

“But what really hurt me, you can’t bring my kid or my wife into it. Like, Kanye is my little brother. He’s talked about me a hundred times. He even made a song called ‘Big Brother.’

“We’ve gotten past bigger issues, but you brought my family into it, now it’s a problem. That’s a real, real problem. And he knows it’s a problem.

“You know it’s a problem because me and him would have been talked about it, resolved our issues.

“And he knows crossed the line. He knows. And I know he knows. ‘Cause we’ve never let this much space go between one of our disagreements and we’ve had many. That’s part of who we are.”

Kanye hasn’t yet responded to Jay’s comments.
