Signs have confirmed that JD Sports is "coming soon" to a popular Middlesbrough retail park.

Last September, plans revealed that the national retailer was eyeing up a move into the former Argos store at Cleveland Retail Park, off the Trunk Road. The 9,729 sq ft unit has remained closed since Argos pulled down the shutters back in June 2022.

Construction work got underway on the unit late last year, with images showing how the storefront had been stripped back to its metal frames as part of a dramatic transformation. Now, new posters with JD branding have been installed on the sleek glass front of the unit - while the park's website also lists the chain as "coming soon."

JD Sports is known for selling sportswear, shoes trainers, and other designer clothing items, with brands including EA7, Under Armour, Nike, The North Face, Adidas, and McKenzie among others. JD already has a string of locations across Teesside, including Middlesbrough town centre, Teesside Park, Wellington Square in Stockton, Redcar, and Hartlepool.

An opening date for the store has yet to be unveiled. However, it does look like the chain is recruiting new staff members, with signs saying "come work for us" next to a QR code on the unit. The jobs are yet to be posted on JD's website.

Cleveland Retail Park is now home to several popular retailers, including Currys, Matalan, TK Maxx, Next, and Shoezone as well as eateries such as Greggs, Costa, and Marks and Spencer Simply Food.
