Jeffrey Dean Morgan is returning to Supernatural for the first time since season 2 in the show's milestone 300th episode, but what does the future hold for John Winchester?

Little is known about the episode, titled 'Lebanon', although writer Andrew Dabb teased that the Winchester brothers' "need for closure is really what brings John back into their lives".

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Morgan (who's now perhaps best known for playing Negan on The Walking Dead) shared his hope that episode 300 won't be the last time Supernatural fans will see him.

"Hopefully they'll leave it in a place where John could come back again," he said. "My dream would be to come back and do something in the last year, the last episode, the last couple of episodes, whatever, and do a proper little arc.

"It'd be fun to have some time and really dig in.

"Maybe [episode 300] won't be the end of John. Like I say to everybody – it's Supernatural. Anything can happen."

Angel Zachariah (Kurt Fuller) will also appear in the episode.

Teasing the episode, Jensen Ackles – who plays Dean Winchester – said: “For Dean, the whole episode is a dream that he doesn’t want to wake up from. But he knows he has to.”

Supernatural season 14 continues Thursdays on The CW. The series airs on E4 in the UK.
