The whole world might be talking about Jennifer Aniston's backstage reunion with former husband Brad Pitt at last night's SAG Awards, but the actress' red-carpet look is just as significant. Aniston stepped out of her style comfort zone for the second major award show of the season, while sticking to what she knows works so well for her, wearing a white, silk, bias-cut, vintage gown by John Galliano for Dior.
The beautiful white dress was slinky and simple, except for the tie detail on the hip, which fell down to the floor, perfectly offsetting the rest of the dress.
Although Aniston stuck to her love of pared-back colours, often favouring black and white for the red carpet, the dress was still a world away from the Dior couture gown she wore to the Golden Globes earlier this month, which was all about volume and drama. Her SAG Awards dress on the other hand, left little to the imagination, hugging her body and showing off her incredibly toned figure.
Aniston is the latest in a long line of stars to turn to vintage catwalk collections for the red carpet. The likes of Kim Kardashian West and Bella Hadid both championed the revival of past collections several times last year, from Thierry Mugler to Versace, Dior and Alaïa. Gwyneth Paltrow meanwhile wore a vintage Valentino gown from 1963 to the Emmys and Rihanna also wore Galliano for Dior late last year.
The revival of vintage red-carpet fashion can certainly be seen as a nod to sustainability and the support for wearing pieces that are not brand-new even for major events. And, of course, there is the enduring appeal of nostalgic fashion, for which Aniston's silk '90s dress was a perfect fit, making her one of the best-dressed stars of the night.
