Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms are nothing if not professional.

But both stars tease they were a smidge uncomfortable filming a kissing scene for their new Netflix holiday film Family Switch. Playing a husband and wife who magically swap bodies with their two teen kids, Garner's and Helms' characters had to kiss one another, after the switch had occurred.

"There’s so many layers of terrible awkwardness," Helms, 49, tells PEOPLE in this week's issue. "Yeah, that was a very funny one. I think we blew a bunch of takes on that one."

Garner, 51, explains further: "If I were in my mom’s body kissing my dad, I’m kissing my dad, and I’m also kissing my brother because my brother is in my dad’s body. There’s so much wrong with it."

The two actors admitted it was hard keeping a straight face during many of the hilarious moments in the movie. "It was a tie. I feel like we both broke a lot," says Helms. Adds Garner: "You cannot put me in a scene with Ed Helms and expect me not to break. I’m sorry. That’s not going to happen."

During production, Helms, who is a husband and father (he doesn't publicly disclose his family's names) admits he "found myself thinking about what my kids were going through and how they might be thinking," he says. "That’s why the body-swap premise is so timeless — because it asks the audience to think more about the people we’re close to and the ways we connect and disconnect. I hope people take a little more perspective out of this movie. But also chuckles."

As for Garner, she's hopeful "little kids, teenagers, grown-ups, parents, grandparents, everyone will see something just for them in the movie and have a blast," she adds. "If at the end of it, there’s a tear or a heart swelling? You’ve just made my Christmas."

Family Switch begins streaming on Netflix on Nov. 30.
