On the first day of Pride month, a new public service announcement features Jennifer Garner focusing on what has been accomplished by the LGBTQ+ community over the years and the additional work that supporters feel is needed for greater equality,

In the PSA “We Are Family” from the Los Angeles LGBT Center, released on Saturday, June 1, and exclusively shared with PEOPLE, the Alias star narrates a video spotlighting members of the LGBTQ+ community with their families and loved ones displaying love, strength and unity.

“We are family,” Garner, whom the organization described as “a proud and unmistakable ally to our community,” says in the clip.

“We are the sparkly sibling. The favorite uncle. And the godmother who spoils you," she says.

“We are the doting parents who fought for love to win and have now seen the seeds of our love grow in ways we once could only imagine,” she adds.

According to the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the participants in the PSA are "vibrant queer families" from L.A. — "everything from the sisters who act as godmothers to each other’s children to the gay son with his loving father to the same-sex parents raising their children to the ballroom house that exemplifies the magic of chosen family."

But in the video, Garner also references the opposition the LGBTQ+ community still faces, like from new anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in various parts of the country.

“We have weathered many storms,” she says in the video, “and lately there’s another that’s brewing.”

“This Pride season, the LGBTQ+ movement has reached an inflection point,” the center said in a statement shared with PEOPLE about the new video. “With terror threats targeting our Parades, more than 500 pieces of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation on the books throughout our country, and hate-related violence on the rise, it’s become clear that we need Pride more than ever.

"We’ve grown accustomed to the refrain 'Love Wins,' but now, it seems that there’s a new battlefield ahead of us.”

“The PSA reminds our viewers that we are your friends, your neighbors, your loved ones,” the organization added in its statement. “And above all, it urges us to find the rainbow at the end of the storm.”
