TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has attracted the wrath of animal rights group PETA.

In a new column for The Times, the controversial star claimed humans might need to "live on pills made by AI machines in solar-powered factories" if we're to build a sustainably green planet.

"Compared, say, with carving a lovely piece of beef and opening the oven door to find your Yorkshire puddings are perfect for once. Who wants to live in a world without gravy?" he quipped.

According to a Metro report, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has responded by posting out a chilling picture book titled The Secret Lives of Animals to Clarkson.

The organisation's vice president of programmes Elisa Allen attached a letter to this gift, noting that it was "simple enough that even someone who mourns the death of their family dog but calls vegans 'lunatics' for caring about the mass slaughter of billions of chickens, pigs, and cows can understand the message".

She then suggested it could take a "Christmas miracle" for The Grand Tour host to "admit he was wrong", yet maybe "this shocking stocking stuffer can help give him the push he needs towards animal and eco-friendly foods in 2024".

The book itself appears childlike at first glance, but the nursery rhymes on display are littered with the stark realities of animal product testing.

Imagery depicts hairless rabbits, lab mice being blinded and a depressed dolphin trapped inside a tank.

"At around this time tomorrow/You'll be skinned, then killed/By humans who'll feel no sorrow/For the blood you've spilled," reads some of the lyrics.

"This is their vile sacrifice/The pain, stress and all the rest/That goes with a product test," is PETA's dark spin on the classic 'Three Blind Mice'.

Clarkson had originally labelled veganism a "noble quest" while caveating: "I watch people now, chewing on grass, like cows, and pausing occasionally to sip from their lumpy green juice.

"They always look so desperately pale and unhappy compared with the slightly tipsy person queueing for some late-night fish and chips."
