Jeremy Paxman rushed to A&E twice in two days

Jeremy Paxman has revealed he had to be rushed to hospital twice in two days after suffering chest pains and an injury that left him needing a head wound glued.

The former Newsnight presenter - who has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease - said he had been at home when he was suddenly "seized" by chest pain, so he went to get checked out.

Then according to the Mail, he had to go back the next day after an injury at his desk left him "looking all the world like a tonsured ninth-century Irish monk who had got involved in a rather vicious punch-up".

Paxman, 72, told Saga magazine: "I was minding my own business, watching a family of squirrels chasing up and down the tree outside my window when I was seized by a pain in my chest.

"I have read enough to know that heart attacks are usually accompanied by pains down the arm, though I couldn't remember which one. Since both seemed to be in working order, I assumed I was all right."

However, his partner wanted him to go to A&E so, as it was during the ambulance strike, they headed off by taxi.

Paxman was examined by a doctor but things took a turn for the worse when his partner headed home to check on their dog and ended up breaking her ankle.

Then the following day, the presenter had to go back to hospital after another incident.

He said he had been "breathing oddly" and that he was "attacked" by his chair and thrown against his desk, which left him bleeding.

The TV star ended up having a wound on his head glued together before being able to return home.

Paxman announced in 2021 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's and went on to step away from hosting University Challenge.

The NHS says Parkinson's "is a condition in which parts of the brain become progressively damaged over many years".
