Update: It's the end of an era: The Jerry Springer Show has officially been cancelled, according to reports.

Families, friends, couples and everyone in between will now have to find someone else to mediate their weird and wonderful disputes, as NBC Universal has confirmed that there will be no new episodes of the infamous series (via The AP).

Producers of the show have called the ordering of original episodes "a possibility" in the future but have reportedly refused to say when that possibility may arise.

To paraphrase Jerry, we won't be right back. *Throws chair sadly*.

Original story: The Jerry Springer Show has produced many a shocking and iconic moment over the years, but it looks like all that drama could be about to end.

The talk show has reportedly halted production after 27 years on air, with only repeats planned when it moves to The CW later this year.

According to TVLine, the channel is considering ordering new episodes down the line (as the deal spans multiple years), though for now cameras have stopped rolling.

Digital Spy has reached out to Jerry's representative for comment.

The Jerry Springer Show first debuted back in 1991, and has become an iconic staple of the talk show genre, producing many controversial moments over the years.

The show's ratings popularity saw it take over The Oprah Winfrey Show with viewers at one point in the late 1990s. There was even a comedy musical based on the show – Jerry Springer: The Opera – that debuted in the early 2000s.

However, a few years ago Jerry apologised for "ruining the culture" with his show during an appearance on Celebrity Juice.

"It's really stupid, it's a circus. People come on... I mean it's not a serious show," Jerry admitted.

"They just come on and complain about their relationships. They're angry and they throw chairs, but the next day they're dating someone else.

"It's a stupid show. I have expenses and I needed a job!"
