A New Jersey patrolman's grandmother has died and his father is in critical condition following a house fire Tuesday afternoon that rendered the home "uninhabitable," a statement from the Morris County Prosecutor's office said.

Renato Capillas wasn't identified in the initial statement, but his police department later confirmed that the victims were his family members in a subsequent statement posted to its Facebook page and a GoFundMe page.

Capillas' 98-year-old grandmother, whose name hasn't been released, was found dead in the home after "extensive fire suppression efforts" had been made by the Roxbury Police and Fire Departments, per the prosecutor's office statement, which was released on Wednesday.

Capillas' 71-year-old father had evacuated the residence and was transported to a hospital for "treatment of severe fire-related injuries" after first responders arrived at the scene on Tuesday afternoon.

The home, located on Mooney Road in the Township of Roxbury, N.J., was rendered "partially collapsed and is uninhabitable."

“I wanted to personally thank our Roxbury Fire Department and the firefighters and EMS personnel who came from surrounding towns to assist us yesterday," Roxbury Police Chief Dean Adone said in the statement. "We understand the impact such a loss can have on the community. We ask for respect and privacy for the family, as they mourn the loss of their loved one and extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and all those impacted by this loss."

Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll echoed Adone by adding "Myself and the members of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office offer our deepest condolences to the victims, and their family and friends. I want to commend the courageous firefighters of the Roxbury Fire Department, as well as all the firefighters and EMS personnel from surrounding towns who responded to this dangerous call."

The fire is under investigation and not considered suspicious at this time.

Two family dogs also died in the fire, according to the GoFundMe page, which was set up by Capillas' colleagues.

"The members of Madison PBA/SOA Local 92 will not allow Ren to walk this dark road alone. We are committed to bringing our great communities together and financially assisting him and his family through this unconceivable [sic] tragedy," a statement on the fundraising page reads.

At the time of publication, over $57,000 has been raised for the Capillas family to help them pay for funeral costs, medical bills and necessities.
