As many still viewers are still reeling from her appearance in Channel 5 drama The Cuckoo and conflicted on their opinions of how it ended, Jill Halfpenny will soon be back on TV in another show she shot last year, Northumberland based thriller The Red King.

In a role that was a real departure from the parts fans are used to seeing her play, Geordie star Jill was cast as the mysterious and very troubled Sian in The Cuckoo, with her posing as an artist looking to rent a room, to impose on the lives of couple Nick and Jessica, with the ulterior motive of taking their adopted daughter Alice away from them, fully believing that she was actually her child.

After airing in the 9pm slot on Channel 5 four nights in a row, The Cuckoo came to an end on Thursday, with a gripping finale that ended with a final scenes that had plenty of viewers convinced the door had been left open for a second series, as others took aim at the 'far fetched' conclusion.

Well, while it's not known if The Cuckoo will ever return, ex Byker Grove and Waterloo road actress Jill WILL be back on screen soon, as The Red King's start date has been confirmed as Wednesday, April 24. The drama, which will air on Alibi, but is already being talked up for a transfer to BBC, was filmed last year at numerous locations in Craster and sees Jill in a cast which also includes Anjli Mohindra (The Lazarus Project, Vigil) as disgruntled cop Grace Narayan, Bridgerton's Adjoa Andoh as Lady Heather Nancarrow and Van Der Valk's Mark Warren as Dr Ian Prideaux.

The plot of The Red King sees Grace sent to the tiny island of St. Jory as she tries to get to the bottom of the unsolved case of missing teenager Cai, having to navigate the strange and unwelcoming locals and their connection to a cult as she searches for answers.
