Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber Reveal How They Kept from Cracking Each Other Up While Filming “Full House”

On their 'How Rude, Tanneritos!' podcast, the co-stars reminisced about trying not to "break" during their hilarious scenes

Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber crack each other up — which was a problem when they starred together on both Full House and Netflix’s reboot of the classic ’80s sitcom, Fuller House.

On the most recent episode of their Full House re-watch podcast How Rude, Tanneritos!, the hosts commiserated with guest Lydia Cornell, 70, about trying not to “break” while filming their hilarious scenes.

Cornell, who guest starred as Spanish teacher Señorita Mosley in Full House’s second season episode “El Problema Grande de D.J.,” shared memories of performing opposite Ted Knight in ABC’s ’80s sitcom Too Close for Comfort. Cornell described learning “everything” about comedy from the Mary Tyler Moore Show alumnus — and also getting into trouble with him.

“I couldn't look [Knight] in the eye because he made me laugh or made me nervous,” she recalled. “So, I’d look above his forehead and he would yell, ‘Why is she looking at my forehead?’ ”

It seems Sweetin, 42, and Barber, 47, employed the same tactic when filming together.

“Jodie and I do that all the time,” Barber said.

“Oh, yeah. Cause we would make each other laugh,” Sweetin chimed in. “We would have these stupid bits between Stephanie and Kimmy that we'd have to do — particularly in Fuller House.”

“We'd be wearing some ridiculous costume or something,” she continued, “and I was like, ‘Just look at my forehead. Like, don't look me in the eye because … if you look me in the eye, we're — it's all bad.’ ”

“The forehead is a great place to look when you're trying to keep it together,” Sweetin added.

“That's a good trick,” Barber agreed.

The costars have likely gotten to know each other’s foreheads pretty well over the past three-and-a-half decades. They appeared together in all eight seasons of Full House from 1987 to 1995, and reunited to star alongside fellow original cast member Candace Cameron Bure in the Netflix reboot Fuller House from 2016 to 2020.

Last summer, Sweetin and Barber teamed up once again for their iHeartRadio podcast on which they look back at Full House with guests, sharing memories and behind-the-scenes stories.

“Full House was our childhood for eight years, eight very formative years,” Barber told PEOPLE last year. “And so getting to relive those memories, things that we haven't thought about in 35 years, I expect it's going to deepen our bond even more than it already is."
