Jodie Whittaker meets her new friends in Dr Who trailer

Doctor Who enters a bold new era with Jodie Whittaker in the weird and wonderful series 11 trailer.

Coming five days after a brief teaser released during the BBC's coverage of the World Cup final, this latest clip was timed for Whittaker and company's appearance in Hall H for Comic-Con International. Have a look below:

Showrunner Chris Chibnall had previously promised that series 11 would have "all new monsters" to serve as a soft reboot for fans not caught up with the continuity from the past eras.

"It was really important to me that there's no barrier to entry," Chibnall recently explained to the Radio Times. "You don't need to know about anything that's come before."

The new showrunner and his production team have also been heaping plenty of praise on Jodie Whittaker, calling her performance "compelling" and revealing that she emerged as the first choice for the job early on.

"In a way, it was a no-brainer," executive producer Matt Strevens told Entertainment Weekly earlier this month. "The fact that we were casting a female Doctor disappeared really quickly from our minds.

"We were just casting the Doctor and she felt like our Doctor."

Chibnall has also confirmed to Digital Spy that there will be no two-part stories in the upcoming series, and that a Christmas special is definitely in the works for this year.

Doctor Who's 11th series will premiere on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US this autumn.
