Jodie Whittaker has revealed she is pregnant with her second child.

The Doctor Who star appeared on the red carpet on Tuesday evening’s BRIT Awards at London’s O2 Arena cradling her visible baby bump. This was the first time she made news of the forthcoming birth public.

The 39-year-old wore a bold white and orange couture-esque dress by British brand Cimone, which was designed with her pregnancy in mind.

In a caption on its Instagram page, the designer explained that the “beanbag dress” was custom-made from “end of life materials” and “created specifically to incorporate her pregnancy, while allowing Jodie to retain her sense of self.”

The beloved actor is set to retire her Doctor Who role later this year.

It was confirmed that the actor and showrunner Chris Chibnall, who joined the hit BBC show together in 2017, would both step back from proceedings after the current series comes to an end.

In a Q&A, Jodie described her emotions on set during the last few days of filming.

She said: “I was just crying my eyes out, absolutely gone.

“But it is also letting go of it. I feel like I will be filled with a lot of grief for it because I kind of... Even thinking about it, it makes me upset. But this show needs new energy.”
