Joe Amabile on How a Water Leak Resulted in a 'Cute' Christmas Sleepover with Wife Serena Pitt (Exclusive)

Amabile tells PEOPLE how he and Pitt celebrate the holidays during his and Wells Adams' Cocktail Collection Holiday Party

Joe Amabile is all for expressing his love of Christmas, but he and his wife, Serena Pitt, have seemingly different enthusiasm levels for holiday decor.

Christmas is particularly special to the Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise alum, he tells PEOPLE, speaking at his and Wells Adams' Cocktail Collection Holiday Party earlier this month. "I love Christmas. I hate guys that are like, 'I'm a Christmas guy,' but I am a Christmas guy," he says.

However, it seems Pitt was much more eager than her husband to get decorations up for when she and Amabile would be at their home in New York during the holidays.

"After Thanksgiving, we had Thanksgiving in Chicago, went back to New York, looking at our schedule for the rest of the month," he explains. "We're literally going to be in New York for six days and Serena made us still decorate the entire apartment for six days. And our place is 700 square feet if we're lucky. What is the point of this?"

Amabile doubles down by adding "What is the point? But it's there," before conceding, "Honestly, I love it."

Then, an inconvenient ceiling issue led Amabile to grow fond of his wife's impromptu decorating. "Our ceiling started leaking like seven days ago. It was a serious problem," he recounts. "All over our bed, I had to get the bed cleaned."

"So then we had to sleep in our living area and we had this little sleepover and all the lights and the tree were there," he says. "It was kind of cute. It was cute."

Amabile and Pitt met while they were filming Season 7 of Bachelor in Paradise. The two became an item and were engaged by that season's finale. They initially wed in a low-key courthouse ceremony on Oct. 27, 2022, but decided to exchange vows again surrounded by friends and family almost a year later on Sept. 2, 2023. Amabile told PEOPLE after the second ceremony that it was "the happiest moment of our lives."

"This time around it feels like the start of an exciting new chapter and we are looking forward to continuing doing life together," he added.
