JOHN MURDOCH'S DRIVE TIME: We evaluate Skoda's Enyaq SUV and Coupe models and unveil the pricing for Hyundai's Inster Cross
In this instalment of John Murdoch's Drive Time, John evaluates Skoda's new all-electric Enyaq SUV and Coupe models, which will arrive in the UK next spring, and unveils the pricing for Hyundai's Inster Cross model.
A new version of Skoda's electric Enyaq SUV will cost from £39,000 when it arrives in the UK this spring, while Coupe models will start at £46,200.
Entry point to the SUV line-up is the SE L 60 model while the Coupe bodystyle kicks off with the Edition 85 version.
Topping the six-model range is the Enyaq SportLine 85x Coupe at £50,650.
The 60 number represents the 63kWh battery available only in SUV variants while 85 denotes the 82kWh pack available in both SUV and Coupe models.
The revamped line-up sees the Enyaq taking on a fresh design defined by the cars’ glossy black Tech-Deck face with its radar sensors and front camera.
Skoda lettering now replaces the badge on the bonnet while a lit strip, called illuminated Teck-Deck face (standard from SportLine trim), links the upper LED Matrix headlights.
And just below, horizontal LED modules deliver a new interpretation of the Czech brand’s familiar four-eyed SUV light signature.
Move inside and a five‑inch digital cockpit and central 13-inch infotainment display are standard while the redesigned steering wheel is now heated.
Keyless entry is also standard along with heated front seats, tri-zone climate control and tow bar preparation on all models.
Trim grades are SE L, Edition and SportLine and every car gets a 13-inch infotainment screen with sat nav, an electric boot and driver assistance systems like Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist Plus and Blind Spot Detection.
With a range of up to 365 miles the new Enyaq also supports rapid charging at DC fast-charging stations, achieving a charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 28 minutes or less, with a maximum charging rate of up to 175 kW.
Luggage capacity ranges from 585 to 1710 litres in the Enyaq and 570 to 1610 litres in the Enyaq Coupe.
And new Simply Clever features include a QR code in the boot, an ice scraper with a tyre tread depth gauge integrated into the boot door panel, umbrella in the driver’s door compartment and mobile phone pockets on the backs of the front seats.
The boot also offers two bag hooks and a retractable boot cover, which can be operated with a single touch.
Orders open on March 6 and first deliveries are expected later in the spring.
Meanwhile, Korean giant Hyundai has announced pricing and specification for the Inster Cross, the all-new EV’s smart adventurous variant.
Hyundai’s first small SUV EV was revealed in June 2024, with pricing and specification for the 01 and 02 trim levels announced in October.
The introduction of the Inster Cross brings outdoor-focused interior and exterior design to the small EV and it will be priced from £28,745.
A 49kWh battery is standard, providing a maximum power output of 115ps and up to 223 miles on a single charge.
Top speed is 93mph and the Cross has a 0 to 62mph acceleration time of 10.6 seconds.
Charging time to 80 per cent capacity is 30 minutes while a charge at home will take four hours and 35 minutes.
As with the Inster 01 and 02 models, a battery heating system and high-efficiency heat pump is fitted as standard, to both optimise range and charging times.
The Inster Cross comes with stacks of kit and safety features.
All Inster Cross models come with Hyundai’s industry leading 5 Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty, 8 Year/100,000 Mile High Voltage Battery Warranty, 5 Year Annual Health Check, 3 year MapCare navigation update program, Roadside Assistance package, and 12 Year Anti Corrosion Warranty.
