The Love Me Again hitmaker has continued to stick up for his best pal when asked to comment on Calvin’s break-up with the Bad Blood hitmaker and though it isn’t standard practise for exes to remain friends, Calvin and Taylor well and truly burned their bridges after the DJ released the hit single This Is What You Came For and John revealed on Twitter that Taylor had ghost-written the track – which she was not happy about.

He told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “From her side? Yeah, it did get brutal. I’m like Calvin, happy to take a back seat. I like my music to do the talking. When I tweeted that, there was a text almost immediately from Calvin. He was like, ‘Down. Now’. And then it all came out anyway.’

He added: ‘No I’m not [friendly with Taylor any more], I don’t agree with what’s gone on … but I shouldn’t comment further. I wouldn’t know her well enough, weirdly. She’s in another world.”

Two weeks after parting ways with Calvin, Taylor embarked on a whirlwind relationship with actor Tom Hiddleston and Calvin and John released a reggae-infused track titled Olé rumoured to be about the DJ’s reaction to the new love – which has now fizzled out. It includes the lyric: ‘I see online that you’ve begun to be a good girl and take trips with your boyfriend.’

Speaking about their friendship previously, John said: ‘He’s my mate, of course I’m going to be there for him when he needs me. I’ve got so much time for him and love him to bits. He’s fine. He’s an incredibly strong man.’
