JoJo Siwa confirms she doesn't write her own songs

JoJo Siwa has confirmed she does not write her own songs.

The former child star compared choosing music to buying new clothes after she was previously accused of "stealing" her newest single, Karma.

"I don't WRITE my songs. I SING them. I have an incredible team of songwriters that write songs and pitch them to me to see if (they) wanna make the song mine!!' JoJo, 21, explained via text captioning on top of a video posted to her TikTok account.

"It's kinda like when you buy clothes... you don't "MAKE" it, but it's yours after you buy it! They also ALWAYS get their credit and, of course, their check."

She went on to explain that while she enjoys songwriting, it isn't her primary strength as a performer.

"I do enjoy the writing process, however for me as an artist that is not my specialty so I like to work with different songwriters to sing their lyrics, add a feeling to it, and ultimately bring the song to life!" the former Dance Moms star wrote.

JoJo previously defended releasing Karma as her own single after the song was originally recorded by performer Brit Smith.

"Honestly, it's an old song," the reality star explained in April. "I was pitched it. I loved it, was obsessed with it, so I grasped onto it."
