Jon Bon Jovi EXCLUSIVE: 'Donald Trump supporters need to be understood'
Jon Bob Jovi may think the controversial presidential candidate is ‘Bad Medicine’ but he also insists that those who back Donald Trump ‘should not be discounted’.
Rock royalty Jon, 54, has been vocal in his support of Democratic leader Hillary Clinton, a personal friend, but also admitted that he’s ‘not taking anything for granted’ in the run up to the election.
Jon, a father-of-four, spoke exclusively to Yahoo Celeb at a playback session of his new album This House Is Not For Sale and spoke candidly about how he felt with the prospect of Trump actually becoming president.
He said: ‘I’m not sure I’m frightened but I’m not taking any thing for granted for the future of the country and the world and my kids’ futures – I just hope good prevails. ‘
‘But it doesn’t mean you should discount other people’s voice including those who are supporting Trump.’
Jon, who has sold 130m records and penned bangers such as Livin’ On A Prayer, said he thought it was ‘fear’ that drove millions of Americans to vote for billionaire Trump, 70.
He added: ‘Someone said to me the other day “you should be chastising those who support Trump” – and I said “not really… shouldn’t you be listening to what motivates them to do that – is it fear? Is it fear-based?”‘
Jon, who has performed at fundraisers for Hillary Clinton, 68, and who has confessed Trump’s candidacy ‘scares the s*** out of him’, said he believed the Republican businessman’s biggest fans were ‘disgruntled, white and older’.
He added: ‘Maybe it’s because the dream didn’t work out for them. Just because their mouth piece isn’t clear in their messaging doesn’t mean those who support him are wrong – if anything they need to be understood.’
Hear, hear. JBJ for President, we say!
