Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ wife, Mara Lane, has thanked people for their support after he was involved in an incident on a plane.

Lane publicly thanked his fans for their ‘compassion’ after TMZ reported that the Match Point star got into a row with his wife on a plane at LAX airport and was subsequently detained by police.

She said the actor was ‘deeply sorry’ and thanked fans for their understanding as he fought an ‘ongoing battle with addiction’, after an altercation on an American Airlines flight over an e-cigarette.

‘8 months of sobriety and an unfortunate day of airline travel,’ she began a lengthy Instagram post to her 25,000 followers.

‘We were in South America specifically working holistically through anger issues that result in these kinds of episodes.

‘When in it… he is not in a frame of mind where he can really even comprehend the repercussions and necessary response to his own actions.

‘J IS extremely sorry for any inconveniences caused to anyone traveling yesterday. There was no argument, just me asking him to not use his e cig per stewardess’ request to me and him not being himself, speaking very very unkindly.

It was out of his character. It was unbeknownst to me anything that happened on flight, as I was with my son with a privacy wall up.

‘We are home safe and he is feeling deeply sorry for any remote disrespect afforded to me, attendants, onlookers or officers.

‘Thank you for your compassion on this ongoing battle with addiction we are in’.

And it appears his loyal fans were there for him, as they left all sorts of nice, supportive comments.

I hope J knows that we do not think less of him when he stumbles, or falls. Addictions just don’t go away, even if we feel like we have over came them. Hope your family is home safe and sound. (I hate to travel on planes),’ read one comment.

Another said: ‘well done on being 60 days clean and keep going day by day xx’.

And generally the tone of the thread offered sympathy for his plight: ‘Bless you and your Wonderful family. We are in a big fight. All we have demons to fight. All have Good and bad days.’

The pair have been married since 2016 and share a son, Wolf, together, and the actor also has a daughter from a previous relationship with Ruby Hammer after the pair dated between 2004 to 2012.

Rhys Meyers has appeared in a string of films, such as Tangled, Bend It Like Beckham, Mission Impossible III, and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
