Jonnie Irwin has retuned home to the cold winter weather after celebrating his 50th birthday in sunny Spain.

The former A Place In The Sun presenter, who previously confessed did not expect to reach his 50th birthday as he has terminal lung cancer, shared a series of photos of him and his family enjoying relaxing in the Spanish sun.

Irwin told his 236,000 followers on Instagram: "Back to the cold after a few days in the sun for my birthday. Big thanks for the generous hospitality given to us.

"It was the ideal location for us all and the hot tub in our garden was a massive hit! I reckon we got the last bit of warm weather so feeling blessed."

Irwin was on holiday with his wife Jess and their three sons Rex, Rafa and Cormac, and while in Spain they caught up with his former A Place In The Sun co-star Jasmine Harman, who recently relocated with her family to the Costa Del Sol.

While away in the sunshine celebrating his milestone birthday Irwin took part in an interview and photoshoot with Hello magazine, and admitted the holiday had taken its toll, but was worth it.

He said: "I never thought I'd be here for this.

"I have been spending all day with the kids; playing in the pool and in the hot tub, playing football. When I went to bed last night I said, 'I feel like a real dad today.'

Irwin has defied doctors by extending his life using experimental therapies and diet, and was not expected to still be alive in 2023.

He even celebrated his 50th birthday early, in March 2023, with a big party for 170 friends and family.
