Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity recieves $10,000 grant from U.S. Bank Foundation

Dec. 15—Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity has received a $10,000 grant from the U.S. Bank Foundation.

This money will be used in the Habitat house construction program in which low-income families who qualify work to build their home and in the end the home is sold at no profit and at a zero interest rate.

"Creating equitable opportunities for our community requires resources, and we appreciate support from the U.S. Bank Foundation, which helps us continue to build and expand our housing programs," Scott Clayton, executive director of the local Habitat, said in a statement.

"Safe and stable housing help children, families and communities thrive, said Kristen Polchinski, community affairs manager, U.S. Bank, in a statement. Working with Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity helps in several ways — creates access to affordable housing, helps homebuyers gain financial knowledge and tools to own and maintain a home, and incorporates energy-efficient features into housing. All of these aspects are investments that will be beneficial for generations to come."

Habitat for Humanity, a nondenominational Christian housing organization that covers the Jasper County area, has built 186 homes, made 87 critical home repairs and over 400 light, exterior repairs for homeowners in need.
