Josh Widdicombe revealed he and his wife recently welcomed their second child, as The Last Leg returned to Channel 4 on Friday night.

The 38-year-old comedian appeared on the first episode of the topical comedy show's new series and host Adam Hills revealed the happy news when introducing his co-presenter.

"The man who recently welcomed a new baby to the world, which means we literally know what he did last summer, Josh Widdicombe," Hills said.

Widdicombe, whose wife Rose Hanson gave birth to their first child in 2017, said: "I'll take you through the whole story. I've had a baby, I can't sleep, and I wish I hadn't had a baby.

"But luckily for you when I have had 12% of my required sleep, what I really want to do is rip the news to shreds."

Widdicombe later added: "I haven't had a nap today. I was wondering if you and Alex could carry it for the first 15 minutes and then I will wake up for the guests?'

Co-host Alex Brooker responded: 'Yeah, so like a normal show then?'

Widdicombe had previously discussed his new arrival on an episode of Lockdown Parenting Hell — the podcast he fronts with fellow comic Rob Beckett.

The show launched last year and follows the two comics as they chat to celebrity guests about everything to do with families and the process of parenting during the coronavirus pandemic.

Widdicombe began his career as a sports journalist before taking up stand-up comedy and making it to the final of the So You Think You're Funny? competition at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2008.

He joined Hills and Brooker for The Last Leg in 2012, when it was conceived as a companion show for Channel 4's coverage of the Paralympic Games in London.

The central trio have continued to front the show ever since, with the latest run marking the 22nd series.
