Josie Gibson is the first celebrity to leave this series of The Jump, after refusing to do compete in the show's main jump during the final minutes of tonight's opening show.

Josie lost out on her race with taekwondo Olympian Jade Jones, meaning that she would automatically face the jump at the end of the show.

However, Josie – who previously told Digital Spy that she has a residual fear of jumping off things, meaning she sought therapy for before the programme – could not face the jump at the end of the programme and, as a result, lost her place in the competition.

Talking to Digital Spy about her exit from the competition, Josie said:

"I was faster than Jade in training so I wasn't expecting to go first."

I'm so so gutted. I thought I was faster than Jade. I was a very nervous panicky person and it's pushed me to my limits every day.

"Davina taught me some techniques breathing techniques and to push anxiety away. Everybody sees me as confident but I am really nervous, anxious person.

"Nerves get the better of me. I've never done that Jump before. I feel like I need to work on my confidence and self-esteem."

Josie could be seen in position at the start of the purpose built ski jump on Jump Mountain when she signalled to the show's helpers that she could not compete and stepped off the ramp.

In the moments after she stepped down, Davina can be seen looking confused as people confirmed to her via an ear piece that Josie would not be participating.

This meant that her fellow jumper Emma Parker Bowles just had to attempt the jump in order to stay in the competition, which she did and landed successfully.

Taking to Twitter after the incident, Josie revealed she is "absolutely gutted" to be leaving the competition.

"I'm absolutely gutted but I've had the time of my life," she said.

"Thank you Channel 4 and the amazing Jump family. I've had the time of my life."

The Jump continues next Sunday (February 12) on Channel 4.
