Yahoo News Justice League's opening was originally a bit different
Justice League star Holt McCallany has revealed that the movie's opening scene was originally a bit different.
After a pre-credits sequence with Superman (Henry Cavill) and his dodgy upper lip, we see Batman (Ben Affleck) taking down an unnamed burglar (McCallany) on a roof, using him to lure one of Steppenwolf's Parademons to him.
McCallany confirmed – like we already told you – that the scene was one of Joss Whedon's additions, but revealed that it was originally a "comedic scene".
"That's how Joss wrote it, and that's how we shot it. I thought it came out great, but the studio felt it would be a mistake to open the film with a completely comedic scene, so it was re-edited a little bit," he told Men's Fitness.
"I was disappointed, but when I got home to New York I found a bottle of my favourite champagne and a note from Joss that said, 'To Battles Lost. Gratefully, Joss'. I can't tell you how much it meant to me that he took the time to write to me."
While it wouldn't have salvaged Justice League, it sounds like the original scene would at least have avoided the muddled tone of the rest of the movie.
Justice League has been a disappointment so far at the box office, taking a lower-than-expected $93.8 million in the US on its opening weekend, and a recent projection has said it could lose Warner Bros $50-$100 million.
It was rumoured that the failure – and the fact he liked a tweet criticising it – could lead to Whedon being taken off the Batgirl movie, but that has been proven to be false.
Justice League is in cinemas now.
