Justin Bieber apologises for 'insensitive' April Fools prank


Justin Bieber has apologised for an “insensitive” April Fools joke in which he claimed his wife Hailey Baldwin was pregnant.

The singer convinced his fans and followers that he was about to become a father for the first time by sharing a fake ultrasound on Instagram.

Bieber also shared a picture of Baldwin undergoing a medical exam, giving his followers even more reason to believe he was telling the truth.

He eventually admitted it was an April Fools prank, however, be he was subsequently criticised by followers who claimed the joke could be hurtful to mothers who are struggling to conceive.

On Tuesday, Bieber shared a length apology on Instagram, claiming he “didn’t at all mean to be insensitive” to be people who can’t have children, but he also said: “With pranks you sometimes have to roll that dice”.

He wrote: “There’s always gonna be people offended, there’s also people who don’t take jokes very well, I am a prankster and it was APRIL FOOLS. I didn’t at all mean to be insensitive to people who can’t have children.”

Bieber said that a lot of people he knows tell their parents they are pregnant as a ‘go-to’ April Fools prank. “But I will apologise anyway and take responsibility and say sorry to people who were offended,” he said.

He continued: “I truly don’t want anyone to be hurt by a prank… it’s like when I shoved cake in my little sisters face for her birthday expecting her to laugh but she cried.

“You sometimes just don’t know what will hurt someone’s feelings. Not to compare pregnancy with cake in the face but it’s just to paint the picture of not knowing what will offend. Some might have laughed but some were offended… I think with pranks you sometimes have to roll that dice.”
